Hey, those of you who have both read the book and seen the movie versions of a piece of literature (such as The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan!), let's get some comparison/contrast of them going here - things that are the same and different - about the two versions. Also, let us know what you liked/disliked about what you read and saw.

ReplyDeleteI am reading The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane and I'm on page 70 and it's an exciting book with loads of blood and violence from the Civil War. It's a must read for the action lovers out there!

ReplyDeleteI have read the book The City of Ember by jeanne DuPrau. I have also seen the movie. What made me mad was the big differences like when the mayor gets eatten by a big monster that chases him and that made me mad because that never happened in the book. I liked being able to see the characters even though they arent what I thought they looked like.

ReplyDeleteI love the book The Lightening Theif, however we are reading the book in class and I've never read it before. But I cheated and went to see the movie. Different things occured in the movie to the book, like how Annabeth's hair was a brownish aulburn in the film and not honey blonde from the novel or when Percy is walking with Groover and Percy sees the three women with siscors and the string in the square. All in all I loved the movie and I'm still chomping at the bit to see how the book is protrayed different than the movie.

ReplyDeleteI have read the book Dear John by Nicholas Sparks and I have seen then movie. There was a lot of diffrences and things left out. One thing that really was diffrent was the ending. Something that they keep the same was that John was in the military and had to keep going over seas. I thought they movie and the book were both good but I liked the book better.

ReplyDeleteI have also read the book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I saw the movie first so kind of pictured the characters as they were in the movie. One thing they left out in the movie is when Bella faints in science class because of the blood. But they also had a lot of things the same.

ReplyDeleteI also saw the movie and read the book and this is what I have to say. The book was a lot better than the movie because the movie, I agree, did leave out parts of the book. Also most books that were made into films do take away from the story like -Twilight and -The City of Ember. Books are better that movies.

ReplyDeleteI'm on page 125 in -The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane, and this is turning into a great story with tons of themes like war is tough and you never know when you might die. Also I have a connection. Henry always runs away in the battle when he sees the confederate troops. This is like me in paintball, I always run when I see the other team charging the fort and shooting at me.

ReplyDeleteI have read the book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer and also seen the movie. I thought that the movie was really different from the book. There were a lot of things in the book that didn't happen in the movie, and some things in the movie that didn't happen in the book. I liked the book better than the movie because it was more detailed.

ReplyDeleteI have read the The City Of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. And I have seen the movie. But just like Lilly said the part they added in about the Mayor. Where he gits chased by the monster and then gits eaten. That never happened in the book. And then another part they changed was who the note goes to. In the book it goes to Dukes dad.

ReplyDeleteI am reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I own the movie but in the book it says that Horace Slughorn and Albus Dumbledore stand back to back. In the movie they just shake their wands and its over. The book also says there is dragon blood on the wall.In the movie nothing but three scratches on it.

ReplyDeleteI have also read Twilight by Stephanie Meyers and watched the movie.
In the book Edward Cullins had the will power to stop drinking Bella Swans blood to get the infection out before she became a vampire. In the movie he didn't. Also in the book Edward had a red car in the movie he had a black car.

ReplyDeleteI have read the book and seen the movie of Goosebumps The Haunted Mask, by R.L. Stine. I have to say this book was great! Although I didn't read about some parts that I saw in the movie of this book. Like in the book it said Carly Beth couldn't get the mask off, while in the movie of this book Carly Beth got to take that horrible mask off. Also in the book Carly's hair is Brown, and in the movie it is Blonde. I still really enjoyed watching and reading Goosebumps The Haunted Mask by R.L. Stine!

ReplyDeleteI am reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rolling. I own the movie but in the book it says that Horace Slughorn and Albus Dumbledore stand back to back. In the movie they just shake their wands and its over. The book also says there is dragon blood on the wall.In the movie nothing but three scratches on it.
Nikki S Today I just finished the book "Because of Winn-Dixie," by Kate Dicamillo. I loved the book because it was about a girl named India Opal and she moves to Naomi, Florida with her father. One day, she goes to the super market to pick up macaroni and cheese, then comes back home with a dog that she met at the store Winn-Dixie, which gave her the idea of naming he dog Winn-Dixie. I loved it because it’s about a girl that finds that her best friend her dog also because there is a lot of pets in the story. I Love animals they are so cute.

ReplyDeleteIf you watched the movie closely, Edward DID have the will power to stop! Though it was harder for him to stop in the movie. I think that was a director choice, not the authors. But in the movie he did have a black car. I never noticed that before!
Alix W.----> Adam B.
ReplyDeleteHave you read twilight? Because it doesn't actually take away from the book. It follows along pretty well to the story line. Though the directer did leave out the scene were Edward and Bella go to the dance(not the prom)
I am reading the first book in - The 39 Clues series. The book is called -The Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan who is also the writer of the - Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I'm on page 119 and this is what I have to say. This is a great start to a series because of all the action. Already a four million dollar mansion was burned down, there have been two explosions that have killed or hurt someone. Also what I think about this book is how someone would give up one million dollars to go on a hunt that takes you around the world. Finally, I think that Dan and Grace will find all 39 clues because why would they be the main characters if the didn't find all of the clues.

ReplyDeleteNo I haven't read the book, but my cousins did. When they saw the movie they agreed with me because of the prom sceen. Also I know the whole story just from my peers and compared what they said with what I saw at the movie theater. My observations concluded to me that the book -Twilight by Stepheine Meyer. didn't follow the movie.

ReplyDeleteLast year my class read the book - The City of Ember by. Jeanne DuPrau. My favorite part was when they trade to save the light. Also when they went in the under ground tunnel when they were in the boat and tried to save her little sister. I think the movie was way better because it had more detail.

ReplyDeleteI'm reading the book called -The Aurora County All-Stars by Deborah Wiles. I'm on page 236 and this is turning into actually a good book. The diologue between the town's baseball team and one fourteen year old girl is hilarious! This is because Deborah Wiles is a great author. The story hits home to me because it's set in Mississippi which is where some of my family grew up. The story also adds baseball which is my favorite sport,so I'm pulling for the baseball team to win this battle.

ReplyDeleteI have read the book - The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan and I hated the movie. Well I really didn't hate it, it just really mad me mad. In the movie theater I was telling my mom what was wrong with the movie, like she does with me in the Harry Potter movies. Ok back to my piont, I am happy that someone who hasn't read the book can tell the differences. And you did cheet by going to see the movie before reading the book but it's ok because we are reading it in class.
Oh ya one more thing. You wil love the rest of the books.
Lilly B.
ReplyDeleteI have read all of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and I really liked all of them! I'm really exited to see the movie but from the previews it looks totally different, like how the boy who plays greg has more hair than he does in the book, and how I thought that Rowley would be taller and bigger.
My Favorite book is Dr. Suess THe Cat AND The HaT!
